PrizePicks Expands ‘Culture’ Picks to 48 States, Broadens Sports Market Access

Daily fantasy and prediction app PrizePicks has dramatically widened its US footprint, now offering Culture Picks in 48 states, up from the previous 38. These Culture Picks cover entertainment, politics, and pop culture, allowing users to wager on non-sports outcomes in a peer-to-peer format.

The expansion coincides with Allwyn International acquiring a majority stake in PrizePicks, a deal first announced last year. At the same time, sports-focused Team Picks have also grown, doubling their availability from 15 to 30 states and adding major markets like California and Florida.

Nevada and Arizona Still Off-Limits

Despite the near-national rollout, Nevada and Arizona remain restricted. Both states have historically opposed prediction markets—Nevada is engaged in ongoing litigation against Kalshi, while Arizona has issued cease-and-desist orders and revoked licenses from several operators.

PrizePicks’ Unique Approach

PrizePicks started with a house-vs-player model, which drew scrutiny from regulators. Last summer, the company shifted most competitions to peer-to-peer to improve compliance. In partnership with Kalshi and Polymarket, PrizePicks now separates its offerings into CulturePicks (non-sports predictions) and TeamPicks (sports predictions), blending DFS mechanics with prediction market features.

The Broader Prediction Market Landscape

PrizePicks’ expansion highlights how prediction markets are evolving across the US:

  • Kalshi and Polymarket operate as “pure play” prediction platforms, leveraging federal CFTC certification to offer contracts nationwide, though legal challenges continue in states like Massachusetts.

  • FanDuel and DraftKings use hybrid models, running prediction markets alongside state-regulated sportsbooks and experimenting with politics and entertainment contracts where sports betting is prohibited.

  • PrizePicks occupies a middle ground, combining DFS mechanics with peer-to-peer prediction markets for both sports and culture.

2026 Snapshot of Sports Contract Availability

Kalshi 49 Pure Prediction CFTC Blocked in MA via injunction
Polymarket 40 (beta) Pure Prediction CFTC (via QCX) Rapid expansion in US
PrizePicks 30 DFS Hybrid State DFS / CFTC Sports via Kalshi; Culture via Polymarket
FanDuel Predicts 18 Hybrid State Gaming / CFTC CME partnership
DraftKings Predictions 17 Hybrid State Gaming / CFTC CME partnership

PrizePicks’ aggressive rollout signals its intent to capture both the sports and culture-focused prediction markets, positioning the platform as one of the largest and most versatile players in the US DFS and prediction space.
